There are many known problems with 8.1.6. I believe that includes the 8.1.6 Client.

AFAIK, Oracle makes no recommendation about any OS under 8.1.6 as it's been desupported and (I suspect) they no longer care about the version.

If you think of Oracle 8.1.5 roughly like Windows95, you are using the database equivalent of Windows98 (and not SE). Now suppose someone offered you a free download of Windows98-SE - why would you deliberately stay at the older version?
