[Quoted] [Quoted] Oracle is throwing there development money into Jdeveloper. The fact that noone is writing 9i forms books is telling. These books never made alot of money, but its great marketing...

[Quoted] The pure Oracle developer job is slowly fading away. Its being replaced wtih the DBA/Developer and the Object-Oriented Programmer/Oracle Developer.

[Quoted] Java is not that hard. The big weakness of most oracle professionals is we only know Oracle. Most dont have computer science degrees where you get a solid grounding in programming. So its hard to cross over to other skills. Its like reading greek. Java is not that hard. Its different. I found that by learning java/c++ I RADICALLY improved my PL/SQL and SQL skills. Since I can compare and constrast the differences, plus I have a better idea of what is going on under the covers. Am I particularly good with OO programming? Absolutely not. However, I could become so if I needed to.

[Quoted] Becoming a 'forms specialists' is a career black hole. People need to expand their skill sets and work at it. The best way to do this is to take university computer core classes. They are FAR cheaper than technical training. Downside is they are alot more work and take alot longer to complete. Its obvious from the way Tom Kyte and Steve Fuerstein write their books that they understand this. Its in Carrie Milsaps new book. I can tell by Sybrand Bakkar's posts that he knows alot more than just Oracle.

There are alot more people Im not mentioning. Received on Fri Oct 24 2003 - 14:13:57 CEST
