Performance Webforms 9i - Three times communication per field

When I tab from field to field in my webforms application I see that there's three times communication back to the server:

1. For knowing what to do, for example to find out navigation triggers etc. This is necessary
2. Locking --> This is a know oracle bug but already exists for three (!) years
3. ......

If the ping times are slow (sometimes you can't change that) than all this extra communication makes the application very slow.

Does anyone know a work around?
