Just as a follow up on the response from Frank.
Oracle RAC is support on raw or cooked (filesystems) using clustering software from Veritas (VCS). Also Oracle provides a Linux version of a clustering software too. As of 9i, Oracle recommends a file system based RAC, as these systems typically implement a data cache (read RAM) subsystem to cache the file system read/writes.
