Well if you look at J2EE sites such as thesererside.com you will see that many people are saying that EJBs are not that great and that in many cases they are just slowing the performance of your application and are a big overhead.

Check out for example this book "Expert One-on-One: J2EE Design and Development" (Wrox Press), Rod Johnson

In any case you can still use EJBs with BC4J. You can base BC4J view items on entities EJBs if you think this is better for you. A big part of BC4J is going beyond the data access and offering easy UI binding
