Showing text stored in BLOB field in a text field in Oracle Forms

Is it possible to show a text - that is stored in a BLOB database field - in a normal text field in an oracle forms application? it is possible to enter text and store it to the database - but when the content is displayed in the text field you can only see some weird characters.
I've tried the to_char and convert functions but those cannot be used with blob values.
