Understood. Last time I looked, it was Apache. And, IIRC, they passed the modifications on to Apache.org. I think they do not open the source to the Oracle-built mods (modules, not modifications). Have you checked the licensing agreement, or are you working on an unconfirmed assumption? (If I'm wrong, correction welcome!)

True - if you are volunteering for this effort and your time and effort are not valuable (or you have nothing better to do), and you are willing to provide the ongoing support for free.

I'd guess that you are simply going to reproduce the same effort that Oracle probably made (and is willing to support). An interesting technical challenge, I suppose, but I still can not understand the long-term business value to you.
