The correct procedure is to edit the jdev.conf file. There is a line "# SetJavaHome c:\j2sdk1.4" - you should remove the bracket and put the correct jdk_install directory. After that you should run InstallOJVM.bat <jdk_install_dir> and then restart JDeveloper.

However, I wouldn't recommend using jdk1.4 if it's not absolutely necessary. If you look at my yesterday's thread "Graphical glitch in JDeveloper 9i" (on which btw nobody answered, grunt, grunt) - I have found the problem, and it's exactly the jdk 1.4. After I reverted to the older version, the problem was gone.

So, it's your call.
