i would suggest you upgrade your version of forms. (patchset 10 and above is a safe bet).
you certainly CAN insert into a view. And have been able to do so as long as I can remember (and that is a very long time).
even with an oracle 7 database overriding the insert/update/delete triggers with your own will get around it. [maybe you need to recode that form] : )))
poor you. there was a bug introduced into a version of forms 6 which did not allow you insert or update a view. http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=FOR&p_id=17906.996
if you attempt to insert into a view whose columns are from multiple tables you must override the insert / update / delete triggers on the form.
