OEM - email not working - solution!

A "heads up" if you will, regarding email notification on OEM not working.
After my e-mail notification suddenly quit working in OEM and google searches on this proved fruitless, I opened a tar and was told to run the command line test for the SMTP server, which I did, and it was working fine. After updating the tar with the results I did some (frustrating) searches in metalink and found out that patch# EM_22_1847220 was what I needed, which replaces the vdmSMTPSession.class file with an updated one.
Replacing this file solved the problem, I still don't know why it suddenly stopped working, except that the file did not even exist on my windows workstation, so I assume that somehow it was deleted.
They did not have the patch for OEM 2.2.0 running on Linux so on my Linux box I just replaced the file with the one from the windows zipfile, this again solved the problem. The file did exist on the Linux box but the email notification did not work in the first place.
The file is in oracle_home/classes/oracle/sysman/vdm/
