According to the Microsoft Knowledgebase (Q244661), they are in the process of testing their driver with the 9i client but recommend that you stay with the 8.1.7 client if you're using their driver. I misspoke when I said that it hadn't been tested, just that the testing hasn't been completed. Since updates aren't planned to their driver, it seems a bit risky to use the Microsoft driver with the 9i client. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q244661&

Realistically, it will probably be OK simply because the 8i and 9i clients are supposed to be compatible. Since the Microsoft drivers still use the OCI 7 API calls, however, you're at the point that compatibility may start to break down.
