Sqlplus editor hangs

[Quoted] I have sqlplus 8.0.5.0.0 installed on my w2k machine. I have been using it [Quoted] for quite sometime with no issues on some 8.1.6 dbs. Recently when I use edit from sqlplus it hangs and I can't even kill it with task manager and have to reboot the computer. I tried switching to a different editor and problem followed. Everything else seems to be working fine. I don't know if [Quoted] anyone has ever seen a similar problem.
