Progressive JPEG problems

Oracle reports (6i) seems to crash when attempting to display progressive jpg.

Does anyone know of a patch or a work around for this problem?

If I could just identify by a bit pattern in the file if it was progressive or baseline, I could work from that. However, I cannot find adequate technical structures of the file types.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Not allowing the progressive jpegs to be stored in the database is NOT an option.
