Oracle equivalent to Sybase's jConnect?

We use Sybase's jConnect running on our webserver as the middleware proxy for connecting our Java applets to our Sybase server machine. We have just installed Oracle 8.1.7 and will need to connect our Java applets to our Oracle database machine. Does Oracle offer a product equivalent to jConnect for this purpose?
