Hierarchical tree populated partially on trigger

I'd like to use hierarcical tree (HT) control on my form. When initiates HT should populate only first level nodes from table "A". Second level nodes from another table "B" (being in relation with first one) should not be in HT on initiation of HT. Because table B are big, I'd like to populate the second level node with node related data from table "B" only when user want to expand first level node. Does anybody knows how to do this? Is there any example?
