Oracle 7.3.4 has been desupported now for almost a year. If you don't have an extended support contract you must have _very good_ reasons to continue using 7.3.4. The End Of Life announcement for 7.3.4 was made in 1998.
Currently the only version supported before 9i is 8.1.7 If it is your preference to continue running unsupported software I'm afraid no one can really help you.
Your problems with the installer may likely be caused by a non-Y2k compatible version of the installer. This was published on the newsgroup in the first half of 2000 _almost daily_ and right now you will probably have difficulty to obtain a Y2k-compatible installer for 7.3 from Oracle just _because_ 7.3 has been desupported.
