In nearly all cases (like 98%) the OS should be chosen on the basis of in house expertise. If you are a unix shop - choose unix. If NT then NT.

Afar as I am aware the DBMS is developed on solaris, the apps on NT. I am open to correction on this latter. However both are stable, reliable supported platforms. The key question is do you know what you are doing with them.
