Not sure about 3.0 and Oracle 8 but if you are stuck running in text/character mode because of your hardware setup (e.g.: dumb terminals), you can migrate the forms to Forms 5.0 or 6.0 and still run in character mode (although Forms seems less happy in character mode in 5.0 and 6.0 than in 3.0 (we've had some odd bugs and "features" that don't work as well in character mode in versions past 3.0) and connect to Oracle 8.
