problems installing Designer 6i repository

Hi

[Quoted] once again an effort to get a response to my problem:

after a successfull installation of Oracle 8i enterprise edition and Designer 6i
I created a user with sufficient priviliges (i've checked the requirements) to install the Designer repository.

Nevertheless, when I hit the button to start the repository-install i get the following message:
- You do not have Select privilege on SYS.V_$PARAMETERS view. The process cannot proceed -

Logically i logged in as SYS and tried to grant the selectprivilege to the user, but this view does not exist, neither does SYS.V$PARAMETERS, so there's nothing to grant !!

The nearest views in name are: SYS.V_$PARAMETER (without the S) and SYS.V_$PARAMETER2 I already got 3 answers in the past that didn't work:

1. check the spelling ( so I did )
2. log in as SYS and grant the privilege to the designerowner (i wanted to, but the view doesn't exists, so...)
3. log in as SYS and create the view (i don't think that's an option ( )

I would be very grateful if someone could solve this mystery for me, because i cannot imagine i'm the only one
who has or had this problem !
