Separate client s/w on single machine

[Quoted] We use Oracle 8i (EE) and on my machine and some others just install the appropriate client software, no problem.

However one set of machines uses an old (ancient) app that will only work with the Oracle 7 client.
I know that the Oracle 7 client can connect to the 8i database but only by some fiddling and offering up the server as a pre8i connection. The supplier has no intension of getting their product to work with later clients.

Is there a way to install both 7 and 8i clients onto a single machine so we [Quoted] can use this older app on 7 and have available the newer features of the 8i [Quoted] to connect to our newer servers.
