If you are interested, you can try Metamata Debug enterprise edition. It is designed to work with *ANY* kind of Java code running anywhere. Particulalry for your case, you need to just compile your Java code (that you want to debug) with our special compiler mjavac -g, add the Metamata Debug library mrt.jar to your "CLASSPATH" (or wherever you can keep libraries for the Oracle 8i engine to be picked up). That's all. After that you should be able to remote debugging very easily.
