Oracle Client Conflicts

We have a pretty serious problem we need to solve very fast (next week). We use the new version of the Oracle client that includes Oracle Objects for OLE as part of the distribution for our applications. The problem is, the customer has existing applications that use the old client that came with Oracle 7.3.3. In one case, there are about 25 workstations that use the old client and the Oracle Developer/2000 (Forms 4.5/Reports x.x) client software that has to be installed in the orawin directory structure imposed by the Oracle client software. The Developer/2000 application probably can't be upgraded to the newer version of its runtime without substantial re-writing. Adding to the problem is the fact that we (our company) wrote both these applications. The Developer/2000 based application was originally done over 10 years ago and uses features that won't be supported in current versions according to Oracle. It was upgraded once to run on NT and use Forms 4.5. We attempted to migrate the application to a later version the last time we worked on it, but had too many problems. We tried to get the customer to fund the migration to the later version of Developer/2000 but they wouldn't do it.

Dual homes is the solution Oracle Corp recommends, but we are worried about side effects. We are sceptical of what might happen when the user tries to run both apps at the same. If switching homes swaps registry entries around, what are the repercussions of this?

Anyway, we are looking for solutions to this problem. I have a list of bad ideas but they all are costly. The workstations are all Windows 98 or NT 4.0.
