Problems with Open Client Adapter v6.0.5.29.0

We are running an Oracle 8.1.6 database with Open Client Adapter v6.0.5.29.0 installed. When logging in using the ODBC interface, we constantly get the following message

ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE

Also when trying to copy some legacy dBase tables to Oracle using

copy from 0/0_at_odbc:dbase to user/user_at_oratabs create test1 using select * from dbftable

we are presented with the following error messages

ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied OCA-00022: Messages 30000 not found; No message file for product=oca60, facility=UB

Can anyone help to suggest a workaround, or is there a patch that we can download to solve this problem?
