SQL*Loader vs JDBC OCI driver

Does anyone know if the JDBC OCI driver is simlar in performance to
using SQL*Loader direct mode? The documentation refers to the OCI
calls as being the API that SQL*Loader uses, so I would think that the
performance might be similar.
Is the server side internal JDBC driver even faster?
