PeopleSoft handling of special characters on Oracle????

My company is implementing PeopleSoft (7.5) on an Oracle database. We need to migrate our data from a home grown application system to the corresponding PeopleSoft modules however the group that is in charge of the PeopleSoft implementation is telling us that Oracle can't support special charater such as the left and right brackets ([,]). Since our exisitng application uses an Oracle database I know that this isn't an Oracle limitation. Does anyone know why PeopleSoft can't handle these characters?
