I set up a linux(RedHat 6.1) version of Oracle8.1.5 on my home PC. I am getting an error message when trying to start up the TCP/IP listener, whose executable is $ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl. I get the same error message when I also try to start up the executable ./bin/start-net8 for the Net8 Listener.

I get the error that the library: libclntsh.so.8.0 cannot be loaded and some extra info that the current library is in ELF format but should be in little-endian format. I crosschecked and indeed the library exists in $ORACLE_HOME/lib Since this is the library that came with the installation, there must be some thing else I am not doing right. Might you know what it may be?

I am trying to do all this coz I want JDBC thin driver to talk to Oracle and I suspect that there needs to be a TCP/IP listener listening for the thin driver.

Your help is highly appreciated.
