ORACLE DBA Needed for a full time permanent position in St. Louis, Missouri:

Qualifications needed:

  • 4+ years Oracle experience with data modeling, physical and logical database administration, use of tables, performance tuning and backup recovery (or equivalent work experience)
  • Familiar with MS NT or HP-UX OS
  • MS SQLServer, Centura SQLBase, HP Allbase, or MS Access knowledge is a plus
  • Willingness to work with vendor software integration
  • BS in Computer Science, Data Management, or equivalent work experience
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience with Configuration management, version control, and software documentation concepts
  • Team oriented

Points of interest:

Reports to the Software Development Manager and will:

  1. Proactively monitor, and maintain all assigned databases, while automating and documenting in detail, their related day to day operations. Process documentation should be according to IS Development standards so that others in the IS group can duplicate in an emergency situation
    • Develop and Maintain proactive backup & recovery strategies on all assigned databases that will provide multilevel recovery capability. This will be determined by the volatility of the data as well as recovery time period. Document the process using IS Development standards so that others in the IS group can recover in an emergency situation.
    • Work with the IS Development group to maintain old and develop new physical database definitions (tables, fields, indexes, etc.) in all assigned databases. This will include working with developers to tune SQL to provide acceptable response time on production queries. In addition, a detailed database change-log for all database changes made should be kept.
    • Maintaining physical and logical database models, and a data dictionary for each assigned database using a predetermined data architect tool (ERWIN).
    • Begin the process to understand the underlying data structure of all assigned databases. In some instances, you may be required to implement the loading and unloading of data to and from assigned databases.
    • Aid, mentor, and develop other members of the database administration group. This will include all topics mentioned above.
    • Proactively maintain all database licensing issues on all assigned databases.
    • When designated "on call", be available via phone or pager so that production data and services are appropriately supported.
    • Keep up with developing technologies available to the data management group to determine if implementing or acquiring the technology is warranted. This will include future database architecture plans.
