Oracle product for date dependent data?

I saw somewhere an Oracle product that had something to do with date/time dependent data in the database. We have lots of tables with start_date and stop_date and constantly need to look up which record was valid for a given date. I think that this product would help but can not find any information on it. Does somebody know what it is?
