Yes this is the trick -- skip the web form and go directly to the ftp site. Use something like http://www.netvampire.com I was able to get the files down in a day after strugling for months.

It keeps trying to connect until successful, its free, it works behind firewalls, it continues where it left off if the connection is broken etc.
