SQL*PLUS and ORA-00604,ORA-02248 errors.

After installing Personal Oracle 8.1.5 on Win2K and connecting/disconnectiong with SQL*Plus a few times, I get an error as follows:

C:\>sqlplus sys/sys

SQL*Plus: Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production on Sun Apr 16 17:30:17 2000

ERROR:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION

The problem here is that I can never re-connect to the server under any account. I have tried shut-down/restarts, re-installation, etc but to no avail. The only thing that works is to re-install Win2K (from an image of course ;-) which leads me to believe that it is registry related. Any ideas?
