Developer + ODBC

During the install of Developer I read something about the program not only working on Oracle db's but also through ODBC. But how do I set this up? I've made a database (one in InterBase and one in MSAccess) and created a couple of ODBC sources (user and system) but I'm having some difficulty connecting to it. Can somebody tell me if what I'm trying is possible and how (connection string, ... ) ?
