where to begin??

I need to build a small application using Cold Fusion. That part I know about, the problem is it needs to use an oracle daatabase that I'll need to create.

I know almost nothing about Oracle and need any information anyone can give.

Any great books that start from the beginning? What software do I need for development of thie simple databse? I will be developing on my laptop, and have limited access to the server.
