developer 2000 delete_record procedure for detail blocks

I am putting a button called ‘DELETE’ and putting a ‘when button
pressed trigger’ as:
do_key (‘delete_ record’);
on a detail block.
Whenever I push the button..it quits the detail block without deleting the record, whereas shift+f6 works just fine.
