As far as I know you have to migrate into steps:

  1. 7.2.3 -> 8.0.5.0.0 (binaries without patches)
  2. After this step migration from 8.0.5 to 8.1.5 somehow the smaller/easier part.
  3. There is a white paper from oracle describing the whole migration procedure.(Metalink) Preparation is the most important and time consuming matter in this case.
  4. After step one you have to try to open the DB under 8.0.5 and try to access all the TS, there is the possibility that mig utility corrupts the file (up to now 2 cases reported)
  5. Do not forget to have a full cold backup.
