[Quoted] Unfortunately, the questions you are asking are all platform dependant to a large degree. usually, the supported compiler is the one that came [Quoted] with the OS (or the Microsoft one if you are using Windows).
There are MAKE files provided with the Pro*C samples that can be used to build your own code as well (but not if you are using Windows).
