Reports 3.0/OCP Certification question

I've read about the three different link types:
Query-to-query
Group-to-group
Column-to-column
I can't figure out what the group-to-group link is for - it doesn't seem to create any kind link other than the visual one in the datamodel.
Have I missed something here ??
