Mail merge in Designer/Developer

I am looking for ways to create a reporting architechture using forms and reports (developing them using Designer 2.1.2.) to perform mail merge based on a customertables. The letter itself is built up using columns in a seperate letter-database, and I will have to use some kind of tools for replacing tags with data from the database based on which customer it is.
