Hi Paul,
You can add field manually to the layout. Create your summary columns in the data model, enlarge the apropriate frames and create a new field by clicking in the "field" button of the layout pallete and then in the place you want it to be. Remember you'ev got to enlarge more extern frames first, one by one, 'till you reach the desired one.
