Some thoughts,

  1. Can you simulate the overwriting by preparing some special test case, perhaps putting the printer on busy, etc. to prove whether this is a factor?
  2. What if you used the HOST command to calls a cmd file or Bat file to do the PRINT command for you...would this make things any cleaner than winapi?
  3. perhaps "a million" files is better, if they can be sent into the print queue properly..then if the printer is busy, or corrupts one, the rest are ok... of course, now you're talking about a random number file naming scheme, etc...
  4. Is there any way to add some code to the print command being executed which will test for the readiness of the printer and loop or sleep if not ready?
