Help with Oracle "install" files/scripts

Howdy all,
Can anyone point me to any documentation that details the use of the Oracle Installer files (.map, *.ins, etc)?
I'm trying to add a string key to the registry (no joy yet).
I'm also trying to set the "Working Directory" for the Start->Group->Item entry. Also no joy their either.
Any help will be appreciated.
