Yes, the database can be on a seperate machine - it isn't really 'three tier client server' otherwise.

Interestingly my installations of webDB and related/erlier products such as Webview as it used to be, Oracle App Server etc have all come up with interesting glitches trying to install it in this manner, as the installer seems to assume have got it all installed on one box. You can usually get it to work eventually, but I ended up running the scripts and things by hand. Same thing on NT and Unix. Not tried the latest verions, so it may be better, and all our OAS applications run on dedicated application servers.
