There is a native interface. It is called Oracle Objects for OLE (oo4o). This looks almost exactly like DAO, so if you've ever programmed against an MSAccess database the learning curve is almost non-existant.

It bypasses ODBC, so you do lose the portability. But it is faster than ODBC, and you lose the headaches of using ADO with Oracle.
