Many barcode readers can be supplied with a keyboard 'wedge'. This connects both the barcode and the keyboard to the keyboard port of your PC. The barcode reader is then just another way of typing on the keyboard and so invisible to your forms.
Things to bear in mind are the navigation around your forms when using the scanner e.g. maybe setting up the scanner to send CR after each scan so that it will automatically go to the next field, etc.
