Reading & writing binary file from Forms 4.5

The fact is, in 1999 nobody has replied and I need to do the same. Specifically, I need to put a winzip file in a long raw field in forms 4.5 or 5.0.
Did you get to do it? How? I am about to give up and use user exits or visual basic, but I am sure any advice will help me.
