Prerequisites:
2+ years of database administration experience (SQL-Server, Oracle, Informix, etc.)
2+ years database development experience (SQL-Server, Oracle, Informix, etc.) 2+ years logical and physical data modeling experience a plus. Knowledge of Java and web-server technologies are a plus. Knowledge of basic system administration including NT scripting and security a plus.

Requires the ability to:
Develop database standards and procedures. Analyze data and process requirements.
Maintain control programs for database access. Interact with operations support regarding production problems and database management. Prepare and implement logical and physical database designs. Evaluate efficiency of program and system designs by using database resources. Monitor database performance statistics and recommend improvements. Convert logical models to physical databases. Apply SQL tuning to NT versions of the databases. Work with web development and maintenance team to web-enable the databases. Create deployment strategies and educate others. Make long term commitment.

Position overview: EDS has partnered with the Veterans Health Administration to help migrate their Legacy systems (built in MUMPS) to a more Twenty-first Century platform. This position is with the analysis and planning directorate. Initially the DBA will create a database to track and monitor all service requests received from the customer base. In the long-term, the DBA will play a significant role in establishing and maintaining a web-based project data repository for a database which will house project management data for in excess of 200 ongoing projects. The DBA will create reporting standards for the enterprise, in concert with the management team. The candidate must be a team player, and must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
