Database connect string maximum length?

Does anyone know how I can determine the maximum allowable length of an Oracle database connect string? I need to know because I have to make sure that the MS-DOS batch program I'm writing will have enough initial environment memory to store the value of the connect string as an environment variable once passed to it as an argument.
