Dev 2K won't populate form from view...any idea why?

I've created a Developer 2000 ver. 2.1 form that is based on a view that, for simplicity's sake, is currently stored in the SYSTEM area. I can select rows from that view all day long in SQL*Plus, but when I run the form and execute a query, the message line just says "Working..." for about two minutes and then returns no records.
