Does this tool allow you to develop applications with similar features (or the same) as Developer 2000? For example does it allow you to :-
  1. create multi-row updateable blocks ( I realise blocks is a forms term)
  2. Query any field
  3. Wildcard queries
  4. enforce field level validation
  5. enforce range checks
  6. enforce formast masks

Or do you have to code these types of features manually ?

Unfortunately , I am unable to trial the product through the Early adoption Program because it is only available under Windows NT 4.0.

The reason behind these questions is that we are considering a number of options including re-writingbthe application in Pl/sql (htp & htp calls etc), using SQLJ,Java Pl/sql or deploying 4.5 forms as applets.

However , my previous experiences with Web Server 2.0 (using pl/sql to generate html
etc) led me to conclude that these tools are deficient in the above areas. For example , we had to use javascript to enforce field level validation. It was also messy to implement (via htp.print). Also , writing cursors to retrieve queries is exhausting/labour intensive. To me, using the above tools appears to be a backward step from Developer 2000 forms.I am however worried about some of the commenst made by people in the group about running forms as applets (with forms cartridge). There appears to a lot of negative sentiment.

My background is Oracle forms 2.3,3.0.4.0,4.5 etc and I have good knowledge of pl/sql , but Java is new to me.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
