Designer 1.6 text field problem

Hello,
We are using Designer 1.6 on AIX 4.2.1.
We recently applied maintenance to AIX and now we can't enter/change text fields in Designer applications.
Has anyone run into this or know of a fix?
Is this a permissions problem or bad AIX maintenance?
