Problem running Net8

I have installed Oracle 8.0.5 on a HP NetServer running NT (Neanderthal Technology) 4.0, Service Pack 3. The DB runs okay (if rather sluggish, but tuning and more memory will fix most of that) but when I try to configure Net8, and run either the wizard of configurator, I get an access error from java.exe with a message of "ntdll; loading multiple objects".

Does anyone have a clue what this stems from, including a bug in the java runtime?
